BIOSILICO ANTIMICROBIAL SILICA SUCCESSFULLY INCORPORATED INTO ARCHITECTURAL COATINGS

The recent announcement on our nanocomposite product AC.PC.00.0198 being tested successfully against the infamous COVID-19 virus, SARS-CoV-2 is turning heads in the right places. As requested by a number of coating formulators, we have subsequently incorporate our antimicrobial additives into architectural coatings to prove its efficacy. In addition to our AC.PC.00.0198 product (copper nanoparticles infused silica), we have also evaluated our AA.PC.00.0198 product’s (silver nanoparticles infused silica) performance in these architectural coating formulations.

With the support of our well-structured research network, antibacterial and antiviral capabilities were added into waterborne architectural coatings to develop Antimicrobial architectural coatings using the two aforementioned Biosilico antimicrobial additives. Coatings were characterised by Anti-Microbial Activity (JIS Z-2801), and Physiochemical Properties (ASTM D-3359, ASTM D-3363, ASTM D-4400-18). This study confirmsthe efficacy of AC.PC00.0198 and AA.PC00.0198 aseffective antimicrobial additives for interior/exterior architectural latex formulation.

This in response to market trends in health and welfare and increased awareness amongst consumers on paint’s role to creating a safe environment within our very own homes, offices, public facilities and more. “The recent global pandemic has created an immense amount of interest among the general public to protect their homes and workplaces against the spread of bacteria and viruses”, said Mr. Christopher Do, Chief Commercial & Technology Officer, BSB Nanotechnology JSC.

This product reduces up to 99.99% of bacteria and viruses responsible for common extraintestinal illnesses, respiratory illnesses and skin and soft tissue infections such as staph infections. When added to any architectural coating at the recommended dosage, it renders coating’s effectiveness at reducing up to 99.99% of these common bacteria and viruses using a globally recognized test standard of JIS Z-2801. The antimicrobial activity of the paint is compared against a control and the results obtained showed that the logarithmic function calculated passed the criterion of ≥ 3 log scales of germ reduction. This proves its effectiveness at killing up to 99.99% of Eschericia Coli (E. coli) and Staphyloccocus Aureus (S. Aureus) on coated substrates.

This antimicrobial and antiviral interior architectural coating is suitable for homes and high-traffic facilities such as hospitals, schools, shopping malls, restaurants, retail establishments and more. This marks a huge step in BSB’s efforts to help protect the health and wellbeing of the common people, a goal that we have pursued since the start of our development of antimicrobial additive in early 2021.

Through our dedicated mindset and attention to detail, we endeavour to solve the biggest challenges for our customers when it comes to formulating Antimicrobial architectural paints, by working closely with their research team to help them with our proven formulating guidelines. We welcome collaboration with the global community of coating formulators in developing anti-bacteria and anti-viral coatings, including the interior coating that is effective against Covid-19.
